E-Invoice Requirements for Engineer / Engineering Firm in Malaysia (2026)
Malaysia's MyInvois e-invoicing mandate is transforming how engineer / engineering firm businesses issue and receive invoices. Whether you're already mandated or preparing for Phase 4 (January 2026), this guide gives you the clear, practical steps to get compliant.
Does this apply to your Engineer / Engineering Firm business?
Phase 4 of Malaysia's MyInvois mandate covers all businesses with annual turnover above RM 1 million, effective 1 January 2026 with a grace period until 30 June 2026. Below the RM 1 million threshold, compliance is currently voluntary — but collecting the required data now puts you ahead.
Why Engineer / Engineering Firm businesses need to act now
Engineers working on construction, infrastructure, and industrial projects bill clients who are themselves mandated under MyInvois — meaning non-compliant invoices from engineers will delay payment from large developers and GLCs.
MSIC Code for Engineer / Engineering Firm
LHDN requires your MSIC (Malaysia Standard Industrial Classification) code on every e-invoice submission. For engineer / engineering firm: 71121 (Engineering Activities) or 71112 for engineering consultancy.
Verify your exact MSIC code at dosm.gov.my or the LHDN MyInvois portal.

Frequently asked questions for Engineer / Engineering Firm in Malaysia
Do engineering firms need to issue e-invoices in Malaysia in 2026?
Engineering firms with annual turnover above RM 1 million must comply from 1 January 2026. This covers civil, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines. Firms working on large infrastructure or property projects likely meet this threshold.
How should engineers classify their services on e-invoices?
LHDN requires a classification code per line item. For engineering services, common codes include: "022" for professional services, "035" for construction services, or specific technical service codes. Check the LHDN CLASS code list for your specific service type.
Are engineering consultancy fees subject to SST?
Engineering consultancy services are subject to Service Tax at 8% if the firm's revenue exceeds RM 500,000. Engineering services that are part of a construction contract may have different treatment — verify with a tax consultant.
Can InvoiceLah handle engineering invoices with multiple project codes?
Yes — InvoiceLah allows you to add project references, purchase order numbers, and multiple line items with individual classification codes per invoice. This supports the complex billing structures typical in engineering projects.
